Q. What’s your background? Are you going to give me a plan with plants I can’t find easily?
A. John Kelly is the owner and lead designer of Land Design, Inc. and Landscape Plan Services. John has 30 years field and office experience in Albany’s Capital District. He spent 15 years as a foreman and designer at Faddegon’s Nursery in Latham, NY and started Land Design in 2003 to provide landscape design only services. John is a certified member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers.
We aim to use low maintenance plants that are hardy and not fussy.
We also have become very familiar with native plants, incorporating them into traditional landscapes where possible.
Q. Why is your pricing so reasonable?
A. Since you are providing the site analysis (measurements, photos, project goals and other input) we don’t have to visit the site. That travel and analysis time is a huge part of our overhead of our local design service.
All materials are delivered by email or into a Dropbox account which you’ll need to set up. Not printing materials is a huge cost saver and we pass along the savings to you. We find a 11″ x 17″ format works well for clients to have printed but we can create any size plan. Many Staples stores provide large scale printing now. in 24″ x 36″ and 36″ x 48″ sizes.
Q. How do I start using your landscape design services?
A. Use our Contact form and touch base. You can email in your materials and we will provide a written contract and pricing. The design fee will need to be paid in advance, since everything is done online.
Look at the examples we have for good measurement and photo submissions. Write up a summary of your goals and wants.
Q. What are your prices and payment terms?
A. Typical foundation planting plans can be as low as $350 for the plan and portfolio. We review every project to determine the pricing fairly. Fees need to be paid before any design work is done. To keep our pricing reasonable, we do not usually provide revisions of the plan. If you receive your plan and have concerns, we’re always happy to take a look. We do not issue refunds.
Turnaround times for designs may be 4 weeks from payment receipt, according to our workload.
